Social History

Our Cornish kitchen shows how domestic work has changed since the early 1900s.

Drinking water had to be collected from a well or freshwater 'chute' like this one at Penwartha.

When the circus came to town the school children were allowed time off to see the parade; one remembers being allowed to ride an elephant to his school in Goonhavern.

Music and drama have always been an important part of social life with local and visiting choirs, bands and touring theatre companies.

Display boards and cabinets in the museum show the varied range of social activities in the area, including sports clubs and church and chapel life.
